Memory care in Shoreline

3 Shoreline communities are certified by DSHS to care for people with dementia: Aegis Living Callahan House, Cristwood Retirement Community, Laurel Cove Community.

Certified memory care units must tell you their staffing, including whether caregivers are awake overnight. Ask for it with their services form, DSHS 10-351. More in our memory care cost guide.

How to read a state inspection report

Inspections are full surprise visits by Washington DSHS, roughly every 15 to 18 months. The PDF is a "Statement of Deficiencies": each item names the rule broken (a WAC number) and what inspectors saw. No PDF for a recent year can mean no problems were cited.

Investigations are complaint visits. A report is posted when an inspector checked a complaint; read it to see whether the complaint was confirmed.

Enforcement letters are the serious ones: civil fines, stop-placement orders (no new residents), or conditions on the license. A letter does not always mean a fine; open it to see.

Fire inspections are from the State Fire Marshal and cover sprinklers, alarms and exits.

Look for repeat problems in the same area (medications, falls, staffing) across more than one report. One old, fixed item matters less than a pattern.

Why "free senior advisor" websites ask for your phone number

Sites like A Place for Mom and Caring.com are not care providers. They pass your name and number to several communities, who then call you, and the community you pick pays the website a fee — often close to a full month's rent. That is why their prices are hidden until you call. We list only licensed facilities, link straight to state inspection reports, and never ask for your phone number.
